During The 11th annual Art Basel in Miami, FL

The UR1 Music & Art Festival will cross-pollinate music, art, performance and design for a once in a lifetimeexperience this December in Miami. The festival’s promoters are set to bring the world’s best DJs, indie and established acts, and performance and visual artists together for one weekend. Set to take place December 8 & 9, 2012 at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami, UR1 will feature multiple stages over the 32-acre property during the 11th annual Art Basel Miami Beach

Kanye West, The Offspring, Lou Reed, Fun. and Santigold were announced as artists set to perform at UR1 in the first reveal. The festival’s promoters are thrilled to add a number of the biggest and brightest names in a variety of music genres as part of the second artist reveal today, including:

- Iconicmusicians including Jane’s Addiction, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Slash and “Godfather of Goth” Peter Murphy

- Groundbreaking, multi-genre artists including the recently reformed Dead Can Dance, Animal Collective and Flying Lotus

- Critically praised artists-on-the-rise Holy Ghost!, Glass Candy, Iggy Azalea, Zola Jesus, Wild Nothing and Tanlines

- Top international DJs including Luciano, Armand van Helden, Arty and Reboot

- Performances by Victor Calderone, Boris, Chus + Ceballos, Norman Doray, David Tort and more in the SPACE Arena, hosted by the legendary nightclub SPACE Miami

 

See the current festival line-up below. Look for additional artists to be announced in the coming weeks, including the line-ups for the Reignfield Presented by Poplife Arena and the Fader Arena, as well as a dubstep arena.

Hyundai is also set to bring their Re:Mix Lab to UR1, saluting the art of collaboration. The mobile gallery features different Hyundai car builds with different visions. With custom audio, one-off materials and bespoke components throughout, each Re:Mix vehicle speaks to the passion, creativity and connectedness that unite us all.

General admission and a limited number of Art Lovers 2-Day Passes are available now. The Art Lovers Pass is a specialentry ticket dedicated to the culture shifters and the international art community in Miami during Basel Week. Released at $99, the pass will grant entry before 2pm to allow art fans a chance to check out the various art installations and exhibits before the music kicks into high gear. The Ultra Music Festival is set to fire up on March 23rd this year, and continues for three solid days of stellar entertainment. This festival was started in 1999 by two business partners, Alex Omes and Russell Faibisch who just wanted to hold an EDM – Electronic Dance Music party named Ultra Music Festival.

The following year, the response for Ultra Music Festival was intense and the EDM festival grew from one day to two in 2007. As of 2011, the Ultra Music Festival is three days, and this year the mega festival sold out in record time and is one of the highest grossing EDM festivalsin the world. Ultra Music Festival has been referred to as the “modern Woodstock” and features droves of young people, dancing and trancing to the music of their generation.

In 2012, Ultra Music Festival is featuring a DJ Mix Competition, where aspiring DJs are encouraged to upload their own mix. One lucky winner will be chosen, and will get the VIP treatment at Ultra Music Festival, with flights to and from the festival, full accommodation and a three day all access pass to Ultra Music Festival. The selected DJ will play a full 60 minute set to a massive crowd at Ultra Music Festival and walk away with Aerial7 A list headphones worth $400.00.

Avicii (Tim Berling) a Swedish DJ is super excited about being this year`s headliner at Ultra Music Festival. Undoubtedly, with the release of his chart topper Street Dancer, this will be his year to shine at Ultra Music Festival. In 2011, he was ranked in the top 6 of the top 100 DJ list.

Groove Armada – a british duo with some stellar hits, Tom Findlay and Andy Cato have been mixing it up since about 1995. They are best known for their top track “I see you baby (shakin that ass)”.

Carl Cox – formerly known in the 1980s as the “3 deck wizard”, for his stellar talent of running three turntables simultaneously. He managed to perform at two countdowns to 2000 by flying between time zones for Ultra Music Festival.

From December 1 through 4 2011, Miami Beach, Florida will be hosting the 10th ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH. This show is renowned as the top art show in the Americas. Live Entertainment hits South Beach

Nikki Beach Miami will now feature live entertainment nightly from 6:00 PM- 11:00 PM, and each night will have a different, international feel. Offering something for everyone, themed musical evenings will include jazz night, Latin Rock, American covers, open format and mash ups.

Nikki Beach Miami is holding auditions for new live entertainers to headline their newly launched happy hour and dinner menu. Auditions are taking place onsite Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17, 2024 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Once the auditions are complete, the new entertainment program is set to begin on Friday, November 25, 2011.

“In our other locations around the world we have very talented musicians infused in our daily programming of Live Entertainment. Now at Nikki Beach in Miami we are introducing an amazing Live Entertainment programming for Happy Hour, Monday - Friday 5pm - 8pm and Entertainment Dining on the sand of South Beach 7 days a week,” says Mike Penrod (partner of Nikki Beach).

Sleepless Night kicks off the season in Miami Beach

The dusk-to-dawn Sleepless Night in November kicks off a cultural calendar that already includes Art Basel and Art Deco Weekend.

High season in Miami Beach now begins in November with Sleepless Night.

Sleepless Night, a citywide celebration of art, music and dance, traditionally runs from sundown to dawn on the Sleepless Night of the autumnal time change (thus foregoing the extra hour of sleep for fun) creating Sleepless Night. The idea began in Paris in 1984 – with Nuit Blanche, or White Night – and has since spread to 11 other major international cities, including Rome, Madrid and Montreal. Sleepless Night

“Art Deco Weekend was the start of it all 35 years ago, but then came Art Basel 10 years ago, and now we’ve got Sleepless Night. Thanks to these three events (Sleepless Nights), the cultural scene here has exploded,” says George Neary, the associate vice president of cultural tourism for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

All of the cultural performances for Sleepless Night are free. Museums waive their admission fees. Luxury bus coaches transport people from place to place all Sleepless Night.

Statistics suggest he makes a fair point for Sleepless Night. Last year, Sleepless Night attracted 130,000 people, Sleepless Night with an estimated 27,000 coming from outside the local area. Art Basel drew 46,000 people, with an estimated 10,000 from outside Florida. And Art Deco Weekend, the granddaddy of the celebrations (actually the grandmother since the event honors Barbara Capitan, credited with saving the Art Deco district from demolition) draws 200,000 visitors, 40,000 of them from out of state come to Sleepless Night.

Sleepless Night was begun to give art and culture lovers a reason to come to Miami Beach in early November, when business is slower. This year Sleepless Night begins Nov. 5. Art Basel follows Dec. 1-4. Art Deco Weekend is Jan. 13-15, 2012.

A case also could be made that Sleepless Night, the neophyte in the group, has become Miami Beach’s signature arts event Sleepless Night.

Sleepless Night features Internationally appealing singers, dancers and performance artists perform alongside such award-winning local favorites as the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami City Ballet and the Miami Symphony Orchestra, as well as local standouts such as internationally known jazz vocalist Nicole Henry.

For this one Sleepless Night, Miami Beach is more than South Beach as the city is divided into four cultural zones, which encompass 80 venues such as the Bass Museum and the New World Symphony.

This year’s Sleepless Night schedule includes Sarruga, a Barcelona-based street theater group that will provide huge dancing fish puppets; Brazil’s Livio Tragtenberg, who will present “The Cabinet of Dr. Strange,” a “composer” in the form of an extinct animal; “The Carpetbag Brigade,” a group from San Francisco that utilizes acrobatic stilts, physical theater, modern dance and circus arts; and “Project Bandaloop,” an aerial dance troupe, which has performed on the cliffs of Yosemite National Park, and will perform its new work “Bound (less),” using the city’s new Frank Gehry-designed New World Center.

All of the Sleepless Night cultural performances are free. Museums waive their admission fees. Luxury bus coaches transport people from place to place, with onboard entertainment and films shown on the vehicles as well.

Finally, those who stay up all night for Sleepless Night will be treated to breakfast on the beach as the sun comes up.
